Power and Control over Metallurgy Production
HMS AGM 2019
8th June
Reading Town Hall
Organised by Eleanor Blakelock
This meeting will explored how metal production was controlled in different societies, in the UK and further afield. This involved discussions of control from a range of sites and periods, including how the Roman military controlled iron production in the UK and beyond, how the Anglo-Saxon elites control and use of precious metals in Anglo-Saxon workshops and even discussed the Chinese control over iron production during the Warring States period.
The venue for the meeting was Reading, which has one of the richest monasteries with a royal connection and the museum has a display of finds from nearby Silchester. The meeting was held in the Victorian Town Hall.
